What’s new with flu shots this year?

1. The three flu strains that the CDC believes will be the most common during each flu season change every year. These three strains are what make up the flu shot vaccine, and this year include:

· A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus

· A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus

· B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus (B/Victoria lineage)

2. The nasal spray vaccine, live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), is not recommended by the CDC this year due to concerns about its effectiveness.
